Jerusalem, British Mandate of Palestine

A corner of the Central Post Office in Jerusalem during the time of the British Mandate. The office was British-designed and completed in 1938, with basalt stones brought down from the Golan Heights. This photo, taken by the Matson Photo Service some time between 1940 and 1946, suggests the hazardous nature of posting a letter at this place and time.
