Little Rock, AR

Designed by Alfred B. Mullett, with James B. Hill as supervising architect, the Little Rock, Arkansas, post office was completed in 1881 in the Italianate style, rendered in pink Indiana granite and sandstone. As always, I love the awnings, those forgotten instruments that predated air conditioning. The post office vacated the building in 1932, but it continues to be used for governmental agencies, and is on the National Historic Register. In the postcard below, you can see they have sprayed oil on the dirt road to keep down the dust.
