This post office in Atchison, Kansas, has been serving postal customers for more than a century. Designed by Willoughby J. Edbrooke (1834-1896) and Jeremiah O’Rourke (1833-1915) in the Romanesque style, begun in 1892 and completed in 1894, this limestone beauty has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. My hat is off to everyone who kept this building standing. An interesting note: The building was designed with only one story; the second story windows illuminated the workroom floor. Below, an early image showing some ivy climbing the walls.
