Bathurst, N.B.

Bathurst

The post office in Bathurst, New Brunswick, a town situated where the Nepisiguit River meets Chaleur Bay. Designed by Thomas Fuller and built in 1885 of sandstone in the Second Empire style, the building still stands.

The Chaleur Bay is known for a phantom ship; it is said that a ship burned in the waters north of the city, possibly in 1760 when French and British forces clashed, and the burning ship’s phantom is seen in certain weather and light conditions.
