The Utrecht main Post Office (1924-2011) is an example of Dutch Art Deco architecture of the Amsterdam school, designed by architect J. Crouwel, inspired by the work of the Finnish architect Saarinen. The barrel-vaulted ceiling is made of glazed yellow-brick ribs alternated with diagonal glass panes for natural light. Global accessibility through postal service is symbolized by statues representing the five continents.
